School intervention: Prevention of alcohol consumption among young people

Aim: Empowering young people to adopt responsible behaviors regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Methods: Health education sessions, using active methodologies, in class, from the 3rd Cycle-9th grade, in the groupings of the School's area of influence, in the academic years of 2017/18-2018/19. The sessions focused on the effects of alcohol on the body: centrally, liver and other organs. Sessions evaluated by questionnaire. Results: 11 sessions were held, covering 209 students; 188(98,0%) identified at least one harmful effect on the liver, and 177(55,5%) reported liver cirrhosis. The opinion on the session for 115(59,9%) of the students was between [20;25]. Conclusion: The valorization of the adoption of responsible behaviors in face of alcohol consumption constitutes as a challenge in the training of young people for an informed decision making, revealing an added value in the construction of a healthy lifestyle.
