A Perspetiva das Famílias quanto às Respostas do Sistema de Saúde e seus Profissionais às Crianças com Síndrome de X Frágil

Abstract

A Síndrome de X Frágil (SXF) é uma perturbação
do desenvolvimento de origem genética, rara e
sub-diagnosticada em Portugal. É, no entanto, a causa
hereditária mais frequente de deficiência intelectual e, também,
a causa genética mais conhecida de autismo. Os profissionais
de saúde são os que mais cedo são chamados a detetar os
primeiros sinais de que alguma coisa não está bem com a
criança e os responsáveis pelo encaminhamento da mesma,
com vista ao indispensável diagnóstico genético. Neste artigo
são apresentados os resultados de uma investigação qualitativa,
com recurso à Grounded Theory, feita a partir de entrevistas
com 45 mães de crianças com SXF, em que se procurou
conhecer o papel desempenhado pelos profissionais de saúde
na deteção e acompanhamento precoce das crianças. Os
resultados encontrados apontam para: a) alguma dificuldade
dos profissionais em lidar com as queixas e sinais detetados
inicialmente pelas mães; b) pouca informação ou consciência 

da necessidade de encaminhar para diagnóstico genético; c)
atraso significativo no envio para avaliação genética; d)
dificuldades na comunicação do diagnóstico à família; e)
dificuldades na articulação e monitorização ao longo do
desenvolvimento da criança. Estes resultados apontam para a
necessidade de informação e orientação para que o sistema de
saúde possa acompanhar estas crianças e famílias, de modo a
que o diagnóstico seja feito mais cedo e o acompanhamento
possa ser mais efetivo.
