Abstract

The writing of Álvaro Domingues in A Rua da Estrada (2009) and Vida no Campo (2012) presents a profound reflection on the recent transformations of Portuguese society and territory. Domingues’ style, in this context, stands out from conventional academic discourse, offering a different kind of approach. However, this does not mean that the texts contained in these two essays do not provide a significant contribution to the discussion around the research topics of this geographer. In particular, he critically addresses the transformation of the landscape and its polysemic nature in the contemporary context. Domingues' discourse is innovative and incisive, especially in proposing questioning paths that highlight the emergence of new paradigms in Geography. These paradigms resonate with the so-called "Geographies of Perception" and the study of lived space, challenging an exceptionalist view that often underpins traditional landscape discourse. Thus, his works foster an expanded reflection on the landscape, going beyond conventional and academic interpretations and embracing a critical analysis of emerging territorial dynamics.
