Abstract

On montre l’intérêt de la correspondance privée, échangée entre1938 et 1973 par deux grands géographes. Elle fait revivre des épisodes tragiquesde l’Histoire du XXe siècle, ainsi que la lutte passionnée de certains chercheurspour maintenir cependant leur activité. L’information est particulièrement abondante pour l’époque 1939/43, quand commença et se généralisa la II GuerreMondiale, grâce à l’abondant courrier alors envoyé par Jean Gottmann (1915/1994)à Orlando Ribeiro. On y voit renaître successivement l’activité du prestigieuxInstitut de Géographie de Paris, l’exode vers le Sud de la France, face à l’invasion allemande, la fuite des juifs à travers le Portugal, l’organisation transatlantique d’une Géographie mise au service de la lutte contre les nazis puis de lareconstruction de l’Europe. L’intéressante personnalité de Jean Gottmann apparaît bien dans ses lettres. Les diverses publications qui viennent de lui être consacrées, aideront à replacer l’étude de son œuvre entre les sources d’inspiration lesplus utiles aux jeunes géographes.

Finisterra uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS 3.2.1.4), a free and open-source software for journal management and publication, developed and distributed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) under the GNU General Public License. PKP is a multi-university initiative that develops open-source software and conducts research to improve the quality and reach of scholarly publishing. OJS includes the PKP PN plugin, a means of digitally preserving journal content in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which ensures long-term access to OJS journal content. PKP enables OJS journal publishers to preserve content in a decentralised and distributed manner.
