Em Portugal em geral e nas cidades de Lisboa e Porto em particular, o turismo tem ganho um peso
significativo nos últimos anos (INE, 2015), com um crescimento ininterrupto (pelo menos na última
década) registando aumentos consideráveis de chegadas de turistas, dormidas e receitas diárias. Esta
evolução tem um impacto directo e indirecto na economia nacional, tanto ao nível de riqueza criada
como de empregos assegurados, para além de todo o processo de revitalização urbana, evidente pela
reabilitação do edificado e do parque habitacionali que se tem dado a conhecer e que tem dado uma nova vida à cidade.
