Guidelines for peer reviewers

Guidelines for peer reviewers

First and foremost, we would like to thank our reviewers for their continued dedication in providing high quality reviews for article submissions to Finisterra. The following recommendations aim to make the work of peer reviewers easier, and to enhance the editorial quality of Finisterra and its acknowledgment by the scientific community:

Ethical principles associated with the publication of scientific works are to be observed. (1)

  • The quality of the manuscript. (2)

  • Finisterra's editorial project. (3)

1. In the event of suspected plagiarism, fraud, or if submitted materials are a matter of concern from an ethical point of view, please report these issues to the Managing Board, Executive Committee or Editor. The use of search engines can help detect improper submissions of allegedly unpublished text or other elements; notwithstanding this, the process of manuscript revision may include verification by means of plagiarism detection tools (similarity detection software). The Reviewer will treat all submitted materials (text, graphs, images), and revision materials with confidentiality; therefore, s/he will neither lend them nor share them without Finisterra's and the author's (or authors') knowledge and consent.

2. When evaluating the quality of the submitted manuscript, please proceed to:

  • fill in the evaluation form:

  • write a short summary of the manuscript, providing comment regarding to the significance of the paper, and its suitability for Finisterra; indicate whether it contains (or not) innovative aspects or results that contribute to current knowledge. This general overview is particularly useful for the Journal.

  • write specific suggestions and comments to Authors. Comments and suggestions with regard to corrections, modifications, additions and deletions, either in the body of the text or other elements of the article, must be precise and explicitly indicated (page, paragraph, line) to help authors identify them and modify them accordingly (minor corrections). When major revisions are advised, please justify your suggestions and clearly indicate why the recommended changes are necessary.

 3. The acknowledgement of Finisterra's editorial projection is quantified by means of bibliographic indicators, such classification is essential for the maintenance and promotion of the journal in international indexes with scientific impact.
