Introduction: The increasing complexity of needs in Palliative Care demands continuous and specialised training to ensure high-quality, person-centred practices. This context highlights the importance of investigating continuing education in Palliative Care.
Objective: To identify nurses’ perceptions regarding the need to investigate continuing education in Palliative Care and to understand its impact on the quality of care provided.
Methods: Four Focus Groups were conducted with nurses from different care settings in Palliative Care, totalling 37 participants. The qualitative data analysis was carried out using Bardin’s Content Analysis Method.
Results: Four categories emerged, aligned with Wilson and Cleary’s Health-Related Quality of Life Model: (1) continuous training (biological and functional status), (2) standardisation of care (general health perception), (3) holistic integration (quality of life), and (4) knowledge sharing (symptom status and general health perception). These categories highlight specific training needs and meet the study objectives.
Conclusion: Continuous training in Palliative Care enhances nurses’ confidence and effectiveness in managing complex cases, promoting a more humane and integrated approach. Despite the limitation regarding the diversity of perspectives collected through the Focus Groups, the results reinforce the importance of regular and comprehensive training strategies to improve care quality and the quality of life of people in Palliative Care.
