Introduction: Perinatal mental health is a public health priority, given the high prevalence of emotional disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period and their impact on maternal well-being, child development, and family dynamics. Nursing plays a central role in promotion, prevention, and intervention in this area, which justifies the systematic mapping of existing interventions and practices.
Objective: To map and characterize nursing interventions in mental health for women during the perinatal period, describing implementation modalities and types of interventions across different care settings.
Methods: Scoping review conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. The search was carried out in international nursing and health databases, without time or language restrictions. Studies describing nursing interventions, programmes, or practices in perinatal mental health were included.
Results: Twenty-four studies were included, identifying interventions in hospital, community, home-based, and digital settings. There was a predominance of interventions in the postpartum period and a greater frequency of psychosocial, psychoeducational, and community-based approaches. The interventions included structured individual care, group programmes, home visits, and specialized interventions aimed at promoting psychological well-being, preventing mental disorders, and supporting more complex situations.
Conclusion: Nursing plays a relevant role in perinatal mental health, with a diversity of interventions and clinical contexts. This review contributes to mapping the available evidence, identifying patterns and gaps that may contribute to practice, education, and future research, while not allowing for generalizable clinical recommendations.
