Abstract

Introduction: One of the main changes in students' lives is the transition to higher education. Some simptoms of stress and depression are very common at this stage, which has a negative impact on cognitive functions and your mental health affecting your eating behaviour.

Objectives: To analyze the influence of eating habits on the mental health of college education students.

Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted, whose selection of studies, with publication date between 2014-2020, was made in databases: : Scielo, Medline® (via PubMed®), and LILACS® (via EBSCO) and RCAAP - Scientific Repositories of Open Access of Portugal. From a total of 9 articles that initially emerged from the research, the corpus of the review consisted of 4 articles.

Results: It has been shown that there is a relationship between mental health and eating habits of college education students, as well as an influence of eating habits on their mental health.Students with a high level of stress, anxiety and more depressive symptoms tend to have unhealthy eating habits.

Conclusion: Programs should be promoted to help students adapt to the context of college education and promote healthy eating behaviors, providing them more health literacy.
