Abstract

The faba bean, in the production system of the Tagus Valley, is an intercalary crop, installed in the winter period, preceding the main spring-summer crop and is destined for the processing food. The objective of this work was to evaluate the development and components of the yield of the Listra variety, in two plots, located in the Tagus Valley fluviosoil. Experimental plots were installed under normal growing conditions on 6 december (171 DAS) and 4 january (140 DAS). It was observed and recorded the development stages, productive plants population, and numbers of stems, pods and grains per m2. Biomass production did not influence the yield of grain. The crop season was marked by adverse weather conditions, which potentiated the appearance of diseases, conditioned the leaf biomass. The plants that have sown at 4 January presented a short crop duration, with smaller periods of the development phases, but higher yield and harvest index.
