Abstract

The planting density is a factor that affects the development, commercial inflorescence diameter and the yield of the processing broccoli. Was conducted in Cartaxo a experiment field under normal growing conditions, to evaluate the effect of planting density in the spring broccoli, variety Parthenon.  Three planting densities were evaluated: D1-2,67 plants/m2 (0,50mx0,40m); D2-3,3 plants/m2 (0,40m x0,40m); D3-4,4 plants/m2 (0,30 x 0,40 m). The trial was installed in tottaly random plots with 4 replicates per treatment. At the end of crop cycle was estimated the yield and the average diameter of heads per plant.

The average estimated yield was higher in D1 and D2. The treatments affected the diameter and the average weight of inflorescences, being higher in D1 and D2. The planting density can be used to control the average size of the processing broccoli.
