Abstract

Bullying, understood as repeated and intentional aggression between peers, can seriously affect students’ mental, psychological and social health, as well as their academic performance, thereby reinforcing school violence. Physical Education (PE) has been identified as a context where such behaviors can emerge but also as a setting with strong potential for prevention through the promotion of prosocial values. This study aimed to analyze bullying in PE lessons using the European Bullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (EBIPQ) in a sample of 1,155 Spanish students from Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate. The results revealed statistically significant associations between bullying and variables such as gender, educational level, school environment, daily physical activity and, to a lesser extent, school type. These findings highlight the need for administrations and schools to implement prevention programs specifically designed for the PE context, with the dual objective of reducing bullying behaviors and promoting students’ mental well-being and sustainable health in schools.
