Finisterra, edited since 1966 by the Center for Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon (CEG, Universidade de Lisboa), is the oldest and one of the leading Portuguese journals of Geography.

The composition of the Executive Committee follows the criteria of gender parity and integrates academics from different scientific areas of Geography. The focus on young researchers, in the composition of the Executive Committee, aims to encourage the publication of more recent research, but is essentially due to their experience publishing and reviewing scientific articles and with digital editing , which, without diminishing the importance of the paper edition, is key for improving the position of FINISTERRA in the online publishing world.

Finisterra publishes original texts dedicated to research in many aspects of Physical and Human Geography, Environmental Resources and Risks, Regional and Local Planning, Territorial Planning, Regional and Local Development, Geographic Information Systems, among other topics.

The quality of FINISTERRA is assured though the revision of submitted articles by an editor designated by the Director and the Executive Committee and double-blind peer review.

Beginning in 2016, Finisterra is published 3 times a year (April, August and December).

Finisterra is indexed in scientific platforms: Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index – ESCISciELO Citation Index; SCOPUS; ERIH PLUS (European Reference Index for the Humanities and the Social Sciences); WebQualis (Capes); SCImago; SciELO – Scientific Electronic Library; EBSCO (Academic Search Complete); DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals); ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index); Dialnet;Latindex (Sistema Regional de Información en Línea para Revistas Científicas de América Latina, el Caribe, España y Portugal;  REDIB (Red Iberoamericana de Innovación y Conocimiento Científico); Sherpa/ROMEO (Journals database).
